Hey, y'all. Just a quickie to let you know that the Tribeca Film Festival is streaming a documentary about donor siblings for free today. You have to register, but there's no charge, and so far I'm finding it very interesting, well made, all that. If you catch it, let's compare notes, eh?
The trailer (which I haven't watched):
Wow. It looks amazing. I can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this! It was an excellent distraction from 1. depressing coverage of the election that may make my family illegal again north of the 49th. and 2. a very dull day on call for obstetrics. I don't know what was so exciting in this town 9 months ago... or maybe everyone was just too excited today about royal weddings to go into labour...
ReplyDeleteWhen my partner and I were first looking to make babies from scratch, the origin of the jizz didn't much matter to me. It has surprised me how it matters more as the kids get older. It was interesting to see kids identify as "donor-conceived" before "queerspawn". And the Donor Sibling Registry people are awesome.
I can't wait to hear what you thought of the film.
Thanks so much for this! We really enjoyed watching it and had a good discussion--mostly about how sweet we think the donor sib stuff is. I'm going to go and think about it some more, but I wanted to say thanks again for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI wanna thank you for sharing, too. I loved seeing how important it was to the children to know about their origins and to meet half-sibs. The reality that the donor created so many children and yet had at least drug issues and potentially mental health problems was troubling. So many issues to think about.
ReplyDeleteI'm out for the count with a 3 day migraine and decided to go through my blog list and do some catching up. (I started reading blogs after I had wrist surgery last year and couldn't do anything for many, many months.) Firstly, congratulations on your little bean! I read back quite a ways and it seems like the end of your pregnancy went smoothly, fantastic! Secondly, I wanted to share this link with you http://www.familyscholars.org/assets/Donor_FINAL.pdf, it's pretty long but very interesting and two of the siblings from the movie are mentioned in it. I am doing a lot of research right now as I am working on attempt number two at getting pregnant (or what I laughingly call Plan B). The first was with the help of a very good friend who chickened out after only two cycles. Now, I will be supporting the economy and buying sperm... I hope you all are doing well!
